Ed Nierman

Dairy Farmers of America - Inducted in 2009

Ed Nierman became a member of the Mid-Am Board of directors in 1974, a position he held for more than twenty years.  During his tenure Mid-Am grew to be a Fortune 500 company and Ed was frequently asked to represent Mid-Am with other cooperatives and auxiliary associations.

Ed is an effective spokesperson for the dairy farmer, never forgetting that the purpose of the cooperative is to support and benefit the members. Ed also became a strong voice in the promotion of products produced by the American dairy farmers. In this endeavor Ed rose to the national level where he served on the board of directors of the National Milk Producers Federation, Dairy Management, Inc., United Dairy Industry Association, and Midland United Dairy Association and as Chairman of the American Dairy Association.

When asked, Ed says his occupation is dairy and crop farmer.  But the long list of awards for service and leadership he's received locally and nationally tells the rest of the story. Ed is a tireless promoter of cooperation on behalf of dairy farmers.

exemplary leadership; an outstanding record of civic service; effective, strong voice on behalf of dairy farmers and unwavering commitment to the cooperative way of business
