Ronald Thompson

Dairy Farmers of America — Inducted in 2020

Ron Thompson grew up on a small dairy farm near West Plains, Missouri. He learned at an early age that successful ventures take people working together.

Ron started as a field representative then rose through the ranks, first to manager of member services and then Ozarks Area Manager for the Southeast Council of Dairy Farmers of America (DFA). Ron was passionate about helping members improve their dairy operations. One member recalls a problem no one else was able to solve. Ron went to that farm and worked alongside the producers until he found a solution. It was common to see Ron in the barn scrubbing pipelines or washing the tankā€”all things that were not his responsibility. His willingness to be helpful made him special.

Ron relished his role as a member liaison between dairy farmers and area regulatory agencies or milk plants. He delighted in helping members deliver quality milk to customers. He was recognized as "Fieldman of the Year" in 1995 and 2018.

Ron served as a trustee for the Missouri Hall of Honors, a group that strengthens the Missouri dairy industry. He served on the MIC board for 17 years, including a term as President, and he supported FFA chapters with participation in MIC's contests.
